Fall Wedding Flowers: Bouquet Ideas and More

Fall wedding flowers are just one of the many reasons Fall is the most popular season for weddings in North Georgia.  We’ve finally made it through the heat of the summer and cooler evenings are creeping in.  You can actually enjoy a fire pit (maybe with a s’more or two!

Second only to the North Georgia wedding venue you choose, flowers make the biggest impact on the feel of your wedding day.

As a wedding venue and flower farmer, Fall wedding flowers are some of my favorites!

Want to know one of the best part of Fall flowers? Dahlias. 😍

They come in so many colors, shapes, and sizes.  Plus they are putting on a colorful show when most flowers are done for the season.

The first time I planted a bed of dahlias, I wasn’t sure about them.  They had some blooms during the Summer, but not many.  So, I kinda forgot about them.

​Until October. 

Going down the road to the barn one day, I noticed they were in full bloom!  White, orange, blush, maroon – so much color.  And they just kept blooming!  That was when I first fell in love with dahlias and decided to plant more.

So, how do you use dahlias (and other flowers) to make the most of your Fall wedding flowers?  We’re answering some top questions below.

What flowers are good for autumn weddings?

Thankfully, dahlias are in full season for Fall.  There are some dahlias available through shipping, but most need to be purchased locally for the best quality.  Dahlias do grow well in North Georgia (I highly recommend adding a few to your personal garden). 

North Georgia has many options for Fall flowers.  Football mums (the large ones) are a great option. Standard chrysanthemums are making a comeback also.

Roses are available year round and really help fill in bouquets, centerpieces and other wedding flower decorations.

Don’t forget about fall leaves or berries to add color to your arrangements!

What flowers are good for Fall bouquets?

The bride’s bouquet is the most photographed flower arrangement of a wedding.  Plus there are many options to preserve your bouquet.

Start there when choosing the style and colors for your wedding flowers.  Don’t worry, you don’t have to know exactly what you want.  Find photos of colors and styles you like to share with your florist.  They will ask questions to figure out the perfect style for you along with suggestions for the best flowers to use in the Fall.

Here are a few of our favorite Fall bouquets.  (And, yes, it was almost impossible to narrow it down…)

If you love lighter colors like white, cream or blush, adding a touch of dark flowers makes it Fall-worthy.

​Embracing darker colors like maroon or orange is a perfect complement to Fall leaves.

Classic white with greenery is a beautiful choice year round.

What are some Fall centerpiece ideas?

There are so many beautiful and unique centerpiece ideas for Fall.  These bring color into the reception and dinner space.

Bonus if you choose a Meadow Style arrangement (pictured below) that can be used both as ceremony aisle décor and moved into the reception later!

There are a ton of centerpiece styles to choose from.  Working with a florist will really help you make the most of your budget.  They will also make sure the colors and style of your bouquet continues throughout the wedding décor.

Tall arrangements are great for bringing color and interest above the tables.  Use a clear stand or one that is open to allow guests to easily see each other and not interrupt conversations.

Long, low centerpieces add color and style to the table where your guests are looking for the majority of dinner.  This can be greenery garlands with flowers added, low arrangements or bud vases.

How do you decorate for a Fall wedding on a budget?

If you’re like me, you could easily go overboard on a flower budget.  Flowers on the arbor, flowers on the tables, flowers from the ceiling, flowers on the stair rail, flowers in your hair… Oh, and have you seen the Welcome signs with flower boxes? 

See? Definitely overboard.

For most of us, our flower dreams are bigger than our budget. So how do you manage your budget?

• Focus on key areas – choose areas like the ceremony space that will be the most photographed or your table during the reception.
• Prioritize – figure out if flowers are a priority for you or if there are other things that mean more for your wedding day
• Don’t compare – your wedding is for you and your fiancé, not your friends, sister, etc.  Once you know your priorities, stick with those and don’t compare yourself to what anyone else is doing.
