Hosting your ceremony outdoors in a garden or other natural setting gives you a gorgeous backdrop designed by the season. Choose a ceremony location surrounded by gardens blooming with daffodils or flowering shrubs for a perfect backdrop. If your heart is set on a woodland setting, look for venues with blooming dogwood trees or rhododendron for natural color.
An outdoor setting allows you to focus on key décor that personalizes your wedding. Spring wedding decoration ideas like colorful ribbons on chairs or your bouquet, draping on an arbor or your bridesmaid dresses are great ways to bring in your personal color palette.
Add string lights or chandeliers to light up the space after dark. It’s hard to beat the romance of a first dance under string lights!

You can easily make most color palettes work with a Spring wedding.
Use pastel colors for a soft and romantic feel. Lavender, pink, or peach are all great pastels to choose from. You can mix them for a colorful wedding or choose monochromatic palettes that focus on one color accented with white and green.
Speaking of white and green, this traditional wedding palette is gorgeous in any season. Using white and greenery will allow your bridesmaid dresses or the colors in the natural landscape to shine.
You can also choose to go bright in Spring! Choose citrus colors or design a palette around coral or hot pink. Bright color palettes are lots of fun and give tons of options for bridesmaid dresses, specialty cocktails, fun cakes and more.

Spring is naturally filled with flowers. Gardens are blooming with daffodils, tulips, peonies, snapdragons and more. Using local and seasonal flowers are an easy way to blend your wedding décor with the feel of the season.
Select spring flowers for a light, airy bouquet. Choose any of the color palettes mentioned above and work with your florist to select blooms to blend Spring floral styles and colors. Add ribbons to your bouquet to accent the colors and create a romantic, trailing effect that’s gorgeous in photos.
We love this inspiration from Martha Stewart!
Pocket boutonnieres work year round, but in Spring they are especially fitting to show off even more of the gorgeous blooms available in Spring. As an added bonus, they are much easier to wear than a pinned boutonniere. (I mean, have you ever tried to pin a boutonniere without sticking yourself?)
Are you looking for a really unique floral accent? A living flower tattoo is a fun and beautiful option! Make sure your florist has experience in applying these if they are going directly on your skin. This would be a really fun activity for your guests, also!
Aisle meadows are a great way to bring the garden to your ceremony even without a garden venue. These arrangements are designed to look like small blooming gardens. They can be set along the aisle or use at the ceremony space. Aisle meadow are great to repurpose for reception décor either as table centerpieces or for big impact at the sweetheart table.
Invisible floral arches are another unique ceremony option for spring wedding decoration ideas. These focus on the floral arrangement to create the arched arbor shape instead of a built arbor. Your florist will use a form to attach the flowers and create the arched design. This is definitely not a DIY friendly option! These can be easier to move inside than a traditional arch arrangement, but make sure you communicate that plan with the florist so they can create the arrangements to be moved.
You may already be thinking about send off exit ideas at the end of the night, but have you thought about a ceremony exit? This is a great option because you still have daylight for photos, your hair, dress and makeup are fresh and all your guests are there. Flower petals are a gorgeous option. You can provide paper cones of petals to all guests or just focus on guests along the aisle.
Ceremony exits can also be done with bubbles or ribbon wands for great photos.
The venue you choose can have a big impact on the overall design of your Spring wedding. A venue with indoor and outdoor spaces offers the best of both worlds.
You can enjoy the outdoor space for ceremony, photos and cocktail hour. Then transition inside for dinner and dancing as the evening cools.
Venues with great flow and connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces allow you to use the full area throughout the day. Guests can mingle inside after dinner, enjoy dancing or stroll the outside grounds. Large sliding doors and covered porches are a great way to connect the outdoor and indoor spaces.
Choose a wedding venue with lots of natural light for gorgeous photos. This allows the true colors you have chosen for your wedding décor to show off in the photos. This also allows the indoor chandeliers or string lights to give a romantic glow to the space as evening falls. Large windows, glass doors or sliding doors are great ways to provide natural light. Additional elements like framed mirrors or light colored walls and ceilings allow the natural light to reflect throughout the reception space.
Since it’s Spring (and April showers bring May flowers), make sure you know the rain plan for your venue. Do you need a tent? Will the interior space be used for the ceremony and then flipped for reception? Is there a covered outdoor space that still gives access to the natural beauty? Ideally, you want a covered space for the ceremony that is separate from the reception space. This allows for the easiest transition for your guests and photo options for you after the ceremony.
Candles are always a great wedding décor. But hanging candles? That’s even better! Hanging candles add a fun and unexpected touch to your reception. Make sure you work with a florist or decorator to ensure they are correctly installed with no concerns about them falling. Choose LED lights instead of real candles for a safe installation.
If you are including a flower petal exit for your ceremony, use a Petal Bar as a fun option for guests! Different types and colors of flower petals are displayed along with pretty paper cups. Guests can create their own mix of petals to toss after your ceremony. You can also have a few already filled for anyone who doubts their creative strengths.
Wedding cakes are beautiful and delicious – but what if you want something different? Dessert displays are a great option! You can include multiple types of desserts – cookies, cupcakes, truffle, donuts, etc. These also give you lots of options for display with different heights, sizes and shapes of platters. Include some flowers or other décor to add to the overall display.
Spring gives tons of inspiration for a gorgeous wedding.
